Gulshan Devaiah REVEALS Nepotism Is Dominating South Film Industry, Says, ‘Bollywood Is More Democratic, Non Filmy Background Actors Are Getting Work’
Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who is widely known for films like ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’, ‘Shaitan’ and ‘Badhai Do’ has been a part of Hindi cinema for 13 years. He is currently busy promoting his upcoming web series ‘Dahaad’ and during its one of the media interviews, he spoke about the comparison between Bollywood and the South. Gulshan believes that Hindi cinema is far more dramatic as there is more favouritism and nepotism in South industries.

Speaking with Hindustan Times, the actor explained that all the actors in the South film industry are quite popular and most of them are from filmy families. Everyone there has their third and fourth generation working there. Unlike the South, Gulshan feels Bollywood is far more democratic where people like him are getting work. Devaiah was quoted saying, “If you look at the industry in the South, it is making so many waves. You can name all the actors who are really popular and all of them come from families. Everybody has their third and fourth generation working. But the Hindi film industry is far more democratic people like me, Vijay Varma, Soham (Shah), Mrunal Thakur, we are all working and doing well and making a living out of this.”

Meanwhile, Gulshan’s latest offering Dahaad is the first Indian web show to screen at Berlin Film Festival in February 2023. The crime drama has been directed by Reema Kagti and is bankrolled by Zoya Akhtar. It also stars actress Sonakshi Sinha, and Vijay Varma in the lead roles besides Gulshan. The show will soon drop on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.
